Mountains, Wireframes and Building for Scale

As User Experience (UX) Designer, Ancent Musee’s main job is to help build Sendy platforms in ways that delight users and solve their problems. Ancent joined Sendy in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and has benefited from the company’s working-from-home shift. In this tête-à-tête, he shares about his life and work.

What excites you about being part of the Sendy team?

I am passionate about the growth of Africa, its businesses, and talent, particularly businesses that impact and improve lives by providing opportunities for growth that can be explored overnight.

Sendy presented me with the greatest privilege of my career by allowing me to be part of the mission to reduce the distance between seeing an opportunity and making a living from it.

What is a typical day for you at Sendy?

Depending on what point of the design process we are in, a typical day varies between aligning with Product Managers and stakeholders on requirements for a specific product/project, jumping on different design tools to ideate, wireframe and prototype solutions to the problem at hand, testing and gathering feedback and aligning with engineers to ensure that what I am designing is feasible from an engineering perspective.

What do you love most about Sendy?

There are always new problems to solve every day. And along with that, every day provides a big opportunity to improve lives. Every Sendy rider or driver I see on the streets is a reminder that what I am doing matters.

I am looking forward to seeing Sendy touch lives all across Africa. I can’t wait to see people move tonnes of products across the continent conveniently from their phones or gadgets.

What do you think is the most interesting part about working in the department you work in?

The synergy and openness in communication within the team is a pure delight. Building for scale is the cherry on top. Scale has to factor into every design decision we make.

What life & work lessons have you learned while working at Sendy?

Never stop learning, and if something is unclear, just ask!

What books, podcasts or films/documentaries are you currently enjoying?

I am currently (re)watching ‘Megastructures’ - an extreme construction projects documentary. On reading, I am reading ‘Who Is Jesus?’ By Greg Gilbert - An engaging book that examines who he really was, why he was really here, and what he really claimed.

A fun fact about you?

I once hiked 7 mountains in 3 days.

A final word?

Looking forward to creating more, solving more, building more and winning together.
