Logistics platform Sendy will tomorrow be holding a major event bringing together over 1000 drivers on their platform at the Nairobi Show Ground. The event will be in a bid to celebrate and award truck and motorcycle drivers for the hard work done through the platform over the years. This will also be an opportunity for Sendy to continue its engagement with these on safety ahead of safety and compliance deadline of boda boda riders by the ministry of transport. 

Drivers who have shown dedication over the years and remained compliant with safety rules, will be recognized by Sendy Founder and CEO Mr. Meshack Alloys during this event. They will also have an opportunity to engage with various Partners that Sendy has partnered with such as Hino, Galana oil and various vehicle servicing companies to provide services to their drivers. 

Speaking at the event, Mr. Meshack Alloys said that recognizing their drivers and engaging them is part of the many initiatives they are doing to ensure that their drivers are in the know of the company's mission, vision and future plans. He noted that safety is key in ensuring that the logistics sector is formalized, being part of the reason he started Sendy. 

“Our drivers are the backbone of Sendy. Recognizing their hard work is therefore very important to us. Through this event, we will be awarding our hardworking and dedicated drivers as well as reiterating need for them to comply with safety rules ahead of the May 2019 deadline. We fully 

support the government’s initiative to ensure bodaboda riders adhere to safety rules. We will seek to educate and ensure that our drivers remain compliant.” Said Mr. Meshack Alloys, Founder and CEO of Sendy. 

This event follows a directive and extension by the government to ensure all bodabodas to get training, licences, and protective gear in a bid to reduce carnage on Kenyan roads. Interior PS Karanja Kibicho said the operators will be required to be compliant from May 1, 2019. 

For one to qualify as a Partner on this platform they have to have a valid driving licence, certificate of good conduct and national identity card. They will also be required to undergo a rigorous onboarding session. They will then be logged in on the Sendy Partner app and allowed to make deliveries on the platform. Sendy also provides insurance cover of all items transported through its platform while in transit. 

Recently, Sendy partnered with Yamaha to train its motorcycle drivers on safety measures when driving motorcycles. This came at a time when motorcycle accidents has been on the rise in Kenya with 18% of fatalities being caused by motorcycles, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) report released in 2017.
